Royal Essence: Candles & bathbombs with a difference

If you’ve watched my Instagram stories or keep up to date with my feed, you’ll know I am slightly obsessed with candles and bath bombs. They are pretty much my two favourite things in this world – besides tea! There is just something so warm and comforting about a candle that radiates an aroma you love, and we all know how fun and relaxing a bath bomb can be.

But I know I’m not alone here, and so does Royal Essence. They’ve taken this common love and turned these products into more than an experience – into an experience that results in something you can actually keep. Jewellery! Yes, it’s one of those awesome companies that places a surprise in every product in the form of gorgeous rings. The idea is that once you have finished using your candle or bath bomb, you’ll be left with a small package containing a piece of jewellery. Much like those old boxes of cereal that used to contain toys! The rings can range from $10 to $2000, and I’ve seen two videos where some lucky ladies received a ring valued at $2000 each. Lucky!

I know the rings are an awesome addition to the candles, but let’s speak about the candles! They are Australian-made (yes for supporting local brands), are hand poured with love and are also 100% eco-friendly soy wax with cotton wicks. They are huge candles and have an 80 hour burn time, and come in a strong weighted glass jar with a lid and serve well as home decor too.

Their candles have been crazy popular for years now, but more recently they’ve decided to branch out and create their own bath bombs, also containing jewellery. I was super privileged to be given the chance to try a candle and bath bomb from Royal Essence and will be sharing my thoughts on the products.

The Scents

Royal Essence have a crazy amount of evocative and unique scents for their candles, like fresh cut roses, campfire, and cinnamon doughnuts, but me being the sweet tooth fruit-crazed person that I am – I went for Watermelon & Lemonade.

“Perfect for long summer days with notes of cool, refreshing watermelon ice, sparkling water and freshly squeezed lemons. Watermelon chunks are mixed with iced lemonade in this ultra refreshing scent. “

Yes, thank you. It’s a sweet scent that is characteristic of watermelons and the lemonade adds a nice acidity and freshness to cut through some of the sweetness. I have to comment on the lasting time of the fragrance here. Too often I’ve bought candles that smell incredible in store only to bring them home and burn them with literally no scent whatsoever. This is not the case with the Royal Essence candles. I haven’t burned mine for 80 hours, but the scent has lasted a great deal more than some of my other candles I’ve purchased.

They have a much smaller range of bath bombs currently, but you can find them in Bubblegum, Raspberry Sorbet, Oatmeal & Honey, Lavender Lemon , and Floral Blooms. One guess as to what I chose? Yes, Raspberry Sorbet.

“For a soothing, cleansing soak this raspberry bath bomb will fizz joyously, scenting the water with hints of berry and softening you up nicely with sweet almond oil. Revitalise your bathing experience!”

Watermelon & Lemonade Candle ($46.95)

This Watermelon & Lemonade candle is really such a beautiful candle and has quickly become one of my favourite candles in the house. Too many times I will smell a candle in store and fall in love, only to bring it home where the smell basically dissipates into nothing after a day or two. This is not the case with the Royal Essence candles, I don’t know what they’ve done but this candle radiates such a beautiful, strong scent which has lasted me weeks without dissolving away to almost nothing. And it actually SMELLS when you burn it, something that I’ve struggled with at times with other candles.

I really cannot recommend the candles enough, based on my experience with this one. The retail price is pretty much on par with other candles in stores for the size but I feel like the formula and fragrance of the candle has exceeded others I’ve tried. Definitely a must have.

The Ring

So it took me about two days of on and off burning to reveal the package that contained the piece of jewellery, as pictured above. Once it burned down enough, I just used a spoon to scoop out the package and let it cool before opening it. It comes in a ziplock bag wrapped in paper with a piece of paper asking you to post a photo of the ring and the candle it came in to Facebook to get the RRP of the ring itself.

My ring is a sterling silver plated ring with Swarovski elements retailing at $50. It’s pretty, but it’s not quite my style. I’m not really a fan of artificial looking engagement style rings. My Mother likes it though, so I will pass it on to her I think. It’s also too big for my fingers which will suit Mum perfectly.

Raspberry Sorbet Bath Bomb ($26.95)

royal-essence-bath-bomb

This bath bomb had such a beautiful scent. I’m really amazed at how beautiful both the scents were but this one was definitely more a dessert style scent, true to it’s name. It has a sweet raspberry fruity scent, but it was also a really creamy smell as well, the almond oil featured really nicely in this bath bomb. It was really effervescent, but it didn’t bring too much colour to the bath. It had a really subtle light baby pink colour that was milky. It wasn’t as strong in colour like my LUSH bath bombs, but it was still really nice. But the smell of this bath bomb is what really won me over. It’s gorgeous and I’d love to try their Floral Blossoms or Oat & Honey bomb. It also made my skin super soft after using it, it was like the almond oil was really moisturising my skin in the bath. Overall, a really nice bath bomb that I enjoyed using!

However, at $26.95 it’s definitely more expensive than your average bath bomb!

The Ring

After the bomb fizzed out enough, it revealed a plastic sphere that held a ring inside. The ring is a 18k Gold plated ring with rose quartz valued at $70. Again, pretty but not my style of ring. It still has an artificial look to it that doesn’t appeal to me. The ring also had one stone missing. I’ve seen some of the other rings that others have received on the Royal Essence facebook page and some of them are insanely pretty, I just received one that wasn’t to my taste. That’s the risk I guess with these type of things, it’s more of a lucky dip and you really don’t know what you’re going to get!

The Verdict

So, my final thoughts on this is that the rings were the let down, but the candle and bath bomb themselves were insanely good. I really enjoyed using the bath bomb and the candle is still burning strongly in my house. It’s gorgeous, I love coming home and opening the back door to be greeted by the sweet and relaxing smell of the candle. The rings are an added bonus to customers but it’s really the candles and bath bombs that make this company shine. The quality of the candles are worth the price on their own in my opinion, although I do think the bath bombs are a little more pricey than I’d prefer.

Although the focus of this brand is to sell their products by marketing the fact that you get a piece of jewellery in the products, their actual products should be talked about a lot more. And if I was to repurchase, I wouldn’t repurchase based on the jewellery you receive, I would repurchase purely because I love the quality of their candles and bath bombs. That alone would be enough to bring me back.

  1. I loved your review girl! I’ve heard about these surprise rings in candles before! The one you received in the candle was beautiful – I loved it.
And watermelon?! Sign me up – I think I need to buy one for myself.

  2. Watermelon & Lemonade sounds delicious! Shame the rings weren’t to your taste though – the first one is lovely. I’ve heard of this company before through a couple of bloggers, but I have enough candles as is & REALLY don’t need to add to my stash!

    1. I don’t know if I’m being too picky but I can think of so many gorgeous solid sterling silver rings that would serve as dainty, beautiful keepsake jewellery that are much cheaper than the RRP of the rings chosen to be added (the RRP is something I am weary of). I am just not a fan of the artificial looking coloured stones. But in saying that, it doesnt take anything away from the candles and bathbombs. They were both so beautiful and I really enjoy using them!

  3. I’ve got a Lemon Biscotti Royal Essence candle and LOVE the scent. It’s so highly fragranced and is such a handsome looking candle in the bargain that the resultant ring was just a bonus. I liked mine but it is slightly big for me. I’d recommend the candles to anyone though – they are good value and the scent range is fab!

    1. I did see that one but it was sold out 😦 so many scents were sold out that I probably would have picked if I had the chance. Like freshly cut roses, cherry blossom, white jasmine, cinnamon doughnuts… the list goes on!! The candles are so beautiful I really love mine!

  4. It’s a shame that the rings weren’t too great. But like you said, it is a lucky dip. I think it would have been better if the rings were simple bands without any jewelstones on them.

    1. My thoughts exactly. And there are so many gorgeous solid sterling silver bands with dainty designs I can think of that would be so lovely to see. Even gold plated dainty bands! The stones just look too fake for me. But again, the actual candle and bath bomb were lovely!

  5. I’ve never heard of this brand, but your description of the scents sounds beautiful. I love the concept of the jewellery inside the bomb or candle and they were pretty pieces. I’ll have to hunt down some other posts and see what everyone else got.

  6. Great review — I’d never heard of these, but can’t get enough of candles and realise it’s been way too long since I’ve tried a bath bomb! Might need to invest in some pampering goods soon! x

  7. I love these types of things, I’ve bought a couple from different brands before and it can be so hit and miss with regards to the surprise item, but then again, that’s always a possibility with a lucky dip!

I guess a way to look at it would be you’re purchasing the candle/bath bomb, and the other items are a pleasant bonus!

I do agree that the bath bomb is a little expensive, though!

  9. I’ve always wanted to try a candle with a ring surprise but am worried the ring wouldn’t fit me/or me not really like it. I would buy this candle just for the watermelon and lemonade scent alone! sounds so yummy!

    1. Honestly I’d buy them again just for the candles, they really are beautiful candles and last forever. The scent never faded and my house still smelled beautiful up until the last burning of the candle. They have so many beautiful sounding scents, but I just couldn’t resist the watermelon and lemonade one!
